Videogames, Bringing People Closer

I Don't Swing That way

Now if I were to generalise the current generation of consoles in a single word. It would have to be connectivity. The one thing that truly binds all consoles is the fact that this generations focus is bringing people together. Whether it be Xbox Live and the Playstation Network, bringing people from all over the word or the Wii bringing the gamers and non gamers together to pretend they're playing a sport.

Now this isn't really a new concept neither for consoles or in pc's, Internet play has been going on for a good while now and Nintendo has had the bringing people together approach since the good ol' days of Red and Blue...Pokemon. Now it's completely open to debate as to whether that the two editions was a money making scheme or a real attempt to bring people together but the Official Nintendo front on the subject was it was to bring gaming friends together by them each buying a alternate edition and trading via link cable.

Now however you cannot pick up an fps without it being online multiplayer and people scream out in unison if the new upcoming game doesn't feature an online and/or offline co-op which used to just be a bonus but now with games like Army of Two with Co-Op at the core of it we have come to see connectivity as just as big a part of gaming as a single player campaign. With this being the current agenda you can't help but wonder what is the next generation going to bring forth to the table where we share our games.
