Masked Videogames?
Now at some point in owning a console, you must have owned a licenced game, what ever it is licenced to movie, film or game. Now 9 times out of 10 the game will suck. Either the controls are like a shopping trolly full of bricks, The gameplay is in a boring and linear fashon or it's glitchy as hell. And my question is: Are we finally getting past this?
The first series to show signs of being more than just a licence were the spider man games, namely Spider Man 2 (home console, not that PC junk) which broke the superhero mould by going free-roam. Now it's not perfect and many people wake up in the middle of the night from nightmares of balloons and moaning children. But it was a step and a big one at that and number 3 was great on the current gens and not so great on ps2 but still good.
Superman returned to consoles in the best form I've ever played as him in, though the gameplay got stale over time, he actually felt super. His speed was amazingly fast but still controllable, his powers worked like his powers. The city size was stunning that is fact, but still a little dull citylife but I'm sure our glimpses at the certain next game The Man Of Steel will fix these problems.
From a man of steel to the man of iron. This looks like an amazing game and I am actually looking at this game with great interest as the game looks stunning especially for a next gen debute. It also has what any superhero game needs. A good variety of interchangeable costumes! Fingers crossed now for special abilities tied to each suit.
Lets hope this trend doesn't change and that heros become more amzing, spectacular and incredible (get the references?) than ever before.
